Connecting Serial Devices to PROFIBUS Networks

By using the SPI 3, devices with serial interface are integrated in PROFIBUS as DP slaves. Depending on the application, various protocols and physical interfaces are available. In decentralized PROFIBUS installations, the SPI 3 replaces the serial interface inside the PLC. The SPI 3 is configured via the respective PROFIBUS DP master by means of the SPI 3 GSE file. The PROFIBUS IO range can be flexibly configured. The SPI 3 is suitable for simple applications, such as connecting text displays or barcode scanners, as well as for more complex applications such as the integration of identification systems, scales, controllers and laboratory equipment.

Overview

NETLink® PRO Compact

In general, connection to each MPI/PROFIBUS terminal of the bus system or directly at the interfaces of active and passive participants is also possible. The PG socket integrated in the connector housing allows connection of additional devices.
The integrated web interface offers parameterization, diagnostic, and security features, and for functional enhancements, the user can use our free diagnostic software SHTools to, for example, automatically perform firmware updates. The latest version is available for download.

The NETLink PRO Compact is a communications processor in the plug format for programming, visualization, and remote maintenance. It combines flexibility and a compact design. Power is supplied to the NETL ink® either through the CPU of the automation device or externally with DC 24 V as an option. The network connection can be used with any standard Cat-5 cable, making cable lengths up to 100 meters feasible without additional components.

uaGate SI makes data integration easier than ever before. The gateway supports the connection of SIMATIC S7-300, S7-400, S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers from Siemens and uses the OPC UA standard for a simple and secure data integration of new and existing plants in higher-level management systems, such as ERP, MES or SCADA systems.

In addition, uaGate SI also offers MQTT Publisher functionality, enabling direct integration of PLC data into private or public IoT cloud applications on the IT side. The generic MQTT implementation supports the use of a large number of different cloud providers. Similar to the OPC UA standard, MQTT also supports various security mechanisms such as encrypted connections, certificates and user authentication, thus contributing to a high level of data security.
